Historical Society Search Example for Ancestor Research
An Unexpected Photo at a County Historical Society
Some of my wife's ancestors settled in Minnesota during the 1860s, not long after Minnesota became a state. They moved to Stearns County in central Minnesota and many of their descendants stayed in the area. In fact, my wife was born in Stearns County. So, when she started to research her ancestry, she took advantage of the records kept by the Stearns History Museum. They had a rather large file on her ancestors with copies of obituaries. There was even a photo from 1907 showing her family members hunting on their farm. This photo was unexpected and would not have been available to my wife in any other way.
