In reviewing the church records related to my grandparents, I found that a particular last name kept popping up as a witness to various religious ceremonies. When I talked to an older great aunt about this, she remembered that the woman in the couple was my great grandfather's sister. I was able to corroborate this in several ways, but without this first hint, I doubt that I would have ever found the connection.
